A tendril of inky darkness reaches out from you, touching a creature you can see to drain life from it, manifesting in glowing green life force flowing to you.

The target must make a

Basic
Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d8 Dark damage.

Also, on a failed save and until this spell ends, you can use your action on each of your turns to automatically deal 4d8 Dark damage to the target. This spell ends if you use your action to do anything else, if the target is ever outside the spell's range, or if the target has total cover from you.

Every time a target who has failed the Dexterity saving throw takes damage from this spell, they must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, their maximum HP is reduced by an amount equal to the damage they took. This reduction does not go away until they complete a long rest.

You regain HP equal to the damage that the target takes from this spell. Constructs and Undead are immune to this spell, and using this on an Undead creature causes you to take 4d8 unaspected damage on cast and each time you activate it.

At Higher Levels: Increase the damage by 1d8 for each spell level increase.
